Laos’s delegation was led by Mrs. Sengdaovy Vongkhamsao, General Director of Laos DPF. It also included Mr. Latsamy Souvanthong, Deputy General Director of Information Technology Department, Bank of the Laos PDR together with senior officials from Examination Department, Administrative Office, and Finance and Accounting Department. From DIV, attending the workshop and welcoming ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy, Chairman of the Board of Directors; Mr. Dao Quoc Tinh, General Director; members of the Board of Directors and the Board of Management along with senior officers and staff members at headquarters.

The workshop was aimed at sharing DIV’s best practices sum up during 19 years of operation. Hopefully, these experiences would serve as a useful source of information to help Laos DPF improve its operation and become a strong deposit insurance organization.
The workshop covered DIV’s core operations such as temporary idle fund management and investment, collection of deposit information from insured institution, as well as some back office activities such as administration, human resource management, deposit insurance fund management, and notably IT which received great attention. Laos DPF and Bank of the Laos PDR’s representative stated that modern and effective IT system would help Laos DPF fulfill its insurance payment duty promptly and timely in accordance with the Decree on deposit insurance approved in October, 2017.
At the bilateral meeting on the cooperation plan between two organizations in the near future, Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy stated that DIV would continue to provide training courses for DPF’s staff members and facilitate DPF’s full membership at APRC/IADI. Mrs. Sengdaovy Vongkhamsao expressed her gratitude to DIV’s leaders for their on-going support. She also hoped that DIV would provide more reference documents on the legal framework for Laos DPF to improve its guidelines for the implementation of the new Decree.

During the visit, DIV’s leaders and staff members showed their genuine sympathy for Lao counterparts and their families, as well as expressed their wish that Lao people who were hit by the flood caused by a dam collapse in Attapeu would soon overcome the hardship.
