Attending the conference, from DIV came Mrs Pham Bao Khanh, Deputy General Director, and representatives of DIV’s professional departments, form DPF Mrs Sengdaovy Vongkhamsao – General Director and trainees from the DPF and the Bank of Lao PDR.
The conference focused on some issues: Sharing DIV’s experience in analyzing insured institutions’ performance; Raising awareness of the core principles for effective deposit insurance systems issued by the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) and Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS); Recommending some policies to improve legal framework thus to enhance the DPF’s effectiveness.
Mrs Pham Bao Khanh, Deputy General Director of the DIV, made her presentation on analyzing commercial banks. Besides, trainees also discussed many topics in teams, so that they practiced their skills and upgrade their knowledge to apply in daily work. At the end of the conference, trainees were evaluated through a test.
Mrs Phan Thi Thanh Binh – Director of the Research and International Affairs Department of the DIV made an introduction on the core principles for effective deposit insurance systems and the methodology for compliance assessment in Vietnam. She also made some recommendations for DPF to assess the core principles compliance.
DPF’s General Director, Mrs Sengdaovy Vongkhamsao expressed her gratitude to the Deposit Insurance of Vietnam for positive support in recent years, and highly appreciated the knowledge and experience shared during the conference. Mrs Vongkhamsao hoped that these should be a precious source of reference for the DPF to reform the deposit insurance system in Laos. She also longed for ongoing assistance of the DIV in future for this would enhance the mutual cooperation between the two deposit insurers.
