Evaluating the performance of the VNBA during the term 2011-2015, the Congress affirmed the significant contributions of its members in mobilizing capital to meet the requirements for economic growth, successfully controlling inflation, stabilizing the macro economy; furthermore enhancing competitiveness among members for sustainable development in an era of international integration. During this tenure, the VNBA performed well enough in connecting members through a variety of activities including seminars and workshops, which eventually submitted important proposals to the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) for more complete mechanisms as well as valuable market supporting solutions. The VNBA also took an active role as a defence side in the process of building legal documents in the banking industry in order to create a relatively complete policy for market.
In the term 2016-2019, identifying the crucial responsibilities of a professional Association of Vietnam financial institutions, the VNBA shall implement activities with a special focus on promoting its role as a focal point institution between its members and the State agencies, achieving a high consensus on the implementation of monetary policies; at the same time supporting its members to submit their proposals to the relevant authorities for remedial actions. In addition, the VNBA shall strengthen public relations, design effective training and push up international cooperation activities.
The Congress also guided its members to effectively implement orientations and policies of the Government and the State Bank of Vietnam in the fields of monetary, credit and exchange rates, interest rates and payment; to consolidate solidarity among members and to promote the development of the whole banking system, to strive to fulfill the objectives and target set out; to continue the restructuring program as scheduled, including resolution of bad debts, measures of improving financial capability and quality of management and operation, to best diversify products and services, making contributions to the safe, efficient and sustainable development of the credit organizations system.
Addressing at the Congress, Nguyen Phuoc Thanh, Deputy Governor of State Bank of Vietnam highly appreciated the contribution of the VNBA in building, supporting the implementation of the policies of the State and State Bank of Vietnam, contributing to the development of the financial and banking system. Mr. Thanh also requested the VNBA to deal with the existing problems and shortcomings in order to deserve a role as a bridge between the State Bank of Vietnam and its members.
In order to achieve the objectives set out in the term 2016 - 2019, the Congress elected VNBA Council (Tenure VI), including 11 members and 3 more members of examination board.
In the first meeting after the Congress, the Council agreed to elect VNBA Phan Duc Tu - General Director of Commercial Bank Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) to be the President of the Association. Mr. Nguyen Toan Thang - Former Deputy Governor was elected to serve as the General Secretary of the Association.
